COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) (Honours) curriculum is structured to develop strong technical, analytical, and design skills required for careers in mechanical engineering. The program begins with introductory courses covering engineering materials, professional engineering practice, engineering design, statics, computing, applied mathematics, calculus, and physics. These foundational subjects build essential problem-solving abilities and an understanding of core engineering principles. In the developing stage, students study sustainable engineering design, thermodynamics, mechanical design, mechanics of materials, manufacturing technology, systems and signals, and advanced mathematics, strengthening their knowledge of mechanical systems and processes. At the graduate level, students engage with specialised topics such as machine component design, robotics and autonomous systems, engineering dynamics, fluid mechanics, system dynamics and control, production engineering, heat transfer, advanced engineering materials, and computational analysis. The program also includes engineering management and system design, preparing students for leadership roles in industry. A major feature of the degree is the two-part engineering project, where students apply theoretical knowledge to solve complex real-world engineering problems through research and design. Honours classification is based on performance in advanced-level coursework. Overall, the degree combines mathematics, physics, and engineering design to prepare graduates for professional careers in mechanical engineering across industries such as manufacturing, robotics, transport, and energy systems.
