COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (Honours) curriculum is structured to build strong technical, analytical, and professional skills required for a career in civil engineering. The program begins with introductory courses in materials engineering, professional engineering practice, engineering design, statics, computing, applied mathematics, calculus, and physics. These foundational subjects develop essential problem-solving abilities and an understanding of core engineering principles. In the developing stage, students study structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics and hydrology, construction technology, sustainable engineering design, remote sensing and surveying, mechanics of materials, and advanced mathematics, providing a strong base in civil engineering systems and methods. At the graduate level, students engage in specialised and advanced topics such as structural design, road and traffic engineering, concrete technology, water and wastewater systems, structural modelling, engineering management, sustainable transport systems, environmental engineering, and computational analysis. A major component of the degree is the two-part engineering project, which allows students to complete an in-depth research and design project over an extended period, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world engineering challenges. The program also includes honours classification based on performance in advanced-level courses. Overall, the degree combines mathematics, science, design, and industry-focused learning to prepare graduates for professional civil engineering careers in Australia and internationally.
