COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education Studies (Early Childhood) curriculum is designed to prepare students for professional practice in early childhood and early primary education settings, with a strong emphasis on play-based learning, child development, and inclusive teaching. The program begins with introductory courses that focus on human development, literacy, numeracy, technology in education, engagement and behaviour, creative arts, and multiple professional experience placements that introduce students to real early learning environments. These foundational studies help students understand how young children learn and develop through play, relationships, and structured learning experiences. In the developing stage, students extend their knowledge through courses in teaching health and physical education, mathematics, science, English, arts, sustainability, inclusive education, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education. Additional professional experience placements allow students to apply evidence-based teaching strategies and strengthen their understanding of diverse learner needs. At the graduate level, students focus on advanced teaching approaches in literacy, language, science, and primary education, along with professional experiences that support transition to school, teacher identity development, and leadership in early learning contexts. Overall, the program combines educational theory, curriculum knowledge, and extensive practical experience to prepare graduates for careers in early childhood centres, kindergartens, and early primary school settings, supporting children’s learning, wellbeing, and development.
