COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) curriculum is designed to prepare future secondary school teachers with strong subject knowledge, pedagogical skills, and extensive classroom experience. The program begins with introductory courses covering human development, literacy, orientation to the teaching profession, and science research methods, along with early professional experience that introduces students to real school environments. A developing course in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education further strengthens cultural awareness and inclusive teaching practice. The graduate-level component forms the core of the degree and includes advanced study in assessment, classroom management, diversity and inclusion, literacy and numeracy across the curriculum, educational research, and multiple professional experience placements. These placements help students develop confidence in managing learning environments, addressing individual learner needs, and building their professional identity as teachers. Students also complete specialised curriculum and pedagogy courses aligned with their chosen teaching areas, such as junior and senior secondary science, geography, mathematics, or psychology. These subjects equip students with the knowledge and strategies required to teach effectively across different year levels. Overall, the program integrates educational theory, subject-specific pedagogy, and practical teaching experience to prepare graduates for professional registration and careers as secondary school teachers in a variety of school settings.
