COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) / Arts curriculum is designed to prepare future secondary school teachers with strong subject expertise, pedagogical knowledge, and practical classroom experience. The program begins with introductory courses focused on human development, literacy, numeracy, and orientation to the teaching profession, supported by early professional experience placements that introduce students to real school environments. Students also complete foundational studies in research methods or numeracy, depending on their chosen extended minor, along with introductory education in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. In the developing stage, students further their understanding of inclusive education and cultural awareness through dedicated coursework. The graduate-level component forms the core of the program, covering key areas such as assessment, classroom management, literacy and numeracy across the curriculum, diversity and inclusion, educational research, and multiple professional experience placements that focus on managing learning environments, supporting individual learner needs, and developing professional teaching identity. Students also complete specialised curriculum and pedagogy courses aligned with their chosen teaching areas, such as English, mathematics, science, history, geography, arts, psychology, or languages. These courses prepare students to teach effectively at both junior and senior secondary levels. Overall, the program integrates theory, curriculum studies, and extensive school-based experience to prepare graduates for professional teaching careers in secondary education.
