COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) curriculum is structured to prepare students for professional teaching roles in early childhood and primary education settings, with a strong focus on children’s development, learning, and wellbeing. The program begins with introductory courses that cover human development, learning theories, engagement and behaviour, literacy and numeracy foundations, creative arts, technology in education, and multiple supervised professional experiences that allow students to apply theory in real learning environments. These early placements help students develop foundational teaching skills and understand classroom dynamics. In the developing stage, students expand their expertise through courses in teaching health and physical education, mathematics, science, English, arts, sustainability, inclusive education, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education, and additional professional experience focused on evidence-based practice and community engagement. At the graduate level, students undertake advanced study in curriculum design, assessment, leadership, research-informed teaching, and specialised subject areas such as literacy, numeracy, HASS, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. Multiple professional experience placements are embedded throughout this stage, allowing students to refine their teaching identity and apply advanced pedagogical strategies. Overall, the program combines theory, curriculum knowledge, and extensive classroom experience to prepare graduates as competent, reflective, and inclusive educators ready to teach in early childhood and primary school environments.
