COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology and Justice curriculum is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in crime, law, and the justice system, along with opportunities for specialised study and practical experience. Introductory courses cover key areas such as criminology, crime analysis, punishment and corrections, policing, the Australian legal system, sociology, and human behaviour, helping students understand how crime is defined, managed, and addressed within society. In the developing and graduate stages, students build on this foundation by studying applied crime prevention, criminal law, professional ethics, diversity in justice, social research methods, and professional development. These subjects strengthen analytical, ethical, and research skills required for justice-related careers. Students then choose from a range of discipline electives, allowing them to specialise in areas such as criminal profiling, homicide investigations, forensic science, youth and restorative justice, cybercrime, victim support, international justice, and crime research methods. One elective option includes professional placement, offering valuable real-world experience in the justice sector. Additional general electives allow students to broaden their knowledge in other fields. Overall, the program combines theoretical learning, research training, and practical application to prepare graduates for careers in policing, corrections, policy, security, legal services, and community justice organisations, while also supporting pathways into advanced study and research in criminology.
