COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts major in Theatre and Performance at UniSC consists of eight core courses that provide students with practical and theoretical training in acting, directing, and stage production. The program begins with Acting 1: The Actor’s Craft, where students learn foundational acting skills, followed by Exploring Twentieth Century Theatre, which introduces key developments in modern theatre history. Students also study Writing for Screens, helping them understand scriptwriting for performance and media. In the intermediate stage, Directing Performance: Contemporary Perspectives focuses on directing techniques and creative leadership, while Acting 2: Contemporary Voice and Text develops advanced vocal and textual performance skills. Theatre Production provides hands-on experience in staging and producing performances, allowing students to work on real productions. The program also includes Devising Performance, where students collaboratively create original theatre works from concept to stage. Additionally, Imagined Homelands: An Exploration of Australian Literature broadens understanding of cultural and literary influences on performance. Throughout the major, students develop strong creative, communication, and teamwork skills through both theory and practical work. Overall, this Theatre and Performance major prepares graduates for careers in acting, directing, stage management, teaching, and other roles in the creative and performing arts industries within the Bachelor of Arts framework.
