COURSE CURRICULUM

The Global Sustainable Development major within the Bachelor of Arts at UniSC is an interdisciplinary program designed to address some of the world’s most urgent environmental and social challenges. It consists of eight core courses that build a strong foundation in sustainability, global systems, and development studies. Students begin with Foundations of Sustainability: Investigating Planetary Health and Advancing Sustainability: Planet, People and Prosperity, which introduce key concepts of environmental balance, human wellbeing, and long-term sustainability. They then study International Development and Global Justice, which focuses on inequality, poverty, and global development issues. The program also includes Global Communication, helping students develop skills to effectively share ideas and solutions across cultures and disciplines. Advanced subjects such as Global Environmental Politics and Communicating Sustainability explore policy-making, governance, and strategies for promoting sustainable practices. Students also examine Security in a Multispecies World, which considers ethical and environmental relationships between humans and nature, and Globalisation, Development and Indigenous Peoples, which analyses cultural, social, and economic impacts of global change. Overall, this major equips students with critical thinking, research, and communication skills, preparing them for careers in government, NGOs, international organisations, and sustainability-focused roles across the public and private sectors worldwide.
