COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology and Justice major within the Bachelor of Arts at UniSC consists of eight core courses designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of crime, criminal behaviour, and the justice system. Students begin with foundational subjects such as Introduction to Criminology and Understanding Crime, which explore the basic concepts of criminology and the causes of criminal behaviour. As the major progresses, students study more specialised areas including Criminal Profiling and Intelligence, Homicide, Investigations and Forensic Science, and Applied Crime Prevention, which focus on investigative techniques and strategies to reduce crime in society. The program also includes Criminal Law, which introduces the legal framework and how laws are applied within the justice system. Advanced subjects such as Diversity, Crime and Justice examine how crime affects different social groups, while Working with Victims and Offenders focuses on rehabilitation, victim support, and offender management. Throughout the major, students develop strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills to understand complex social and legal issues. They also gain practical knowledge of how the criminal justice system operates in real-world contexts. Overall, this major prepares graduates for careers in policing support, corrections, law enforcement agencies, policy development, social services, and other justice-related fields within the Bachelor of Arts program.
