COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Animal Ecology program at UniSC is structured to provide a progressive learning experience across introductory, developing, and advanced levels, along with practical and elective opportunities. In the introductory stage (96 units), students build a strong foundation in core scientific and ecological principles through courses such as Animal Ecology Field Course, Endangered Animals and their Conservation, Animal Form, Function and Evolution, Marine Vertebrates, Cell Diversity, Biodiversity and Ecology, Science Research Methods, and Discovering Science. The developing stage (72 units) deepens understanding with more specialised subjects including Animal Ecophysiology, Ecological Data Analysis using Statistics, Invertebrate Biology and Ecology, Terrestrial Vertebrate Diversity, Geographic Information Science, and Coastal and Marine Ecology. At the graduate level (48 units), students focus on advanced concepts such as Animal Behaviour, Global-Change Ecology, Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, and Coastal Conservation Planning, preparing them for professional roles in environmental science. Additionally, students must complete 12 units from applied learning options like field studies at K’gari, special research projects, or workplace learning placements. The program is further supported by 60 units of electives, allowing students to tailor their studies based on personal interests or career goals. Overall, the curriculum blends theory, research, and field experience to prepare graduates for careers in wildlife conservation, ecology, and environmental management.
