COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is a research-focused graduate degree that prepares candidates to undertake independent, sustained research in divinity or related disciplines. Graduates develop advanced knowledge of their chosen field, including awareness of recent developments, and apply high-level cognitive, technical, and creative skills to plan and execute a substantial research project. They gain mastery of research principles and methods, critically analyze complex ideas, and communicate their findings effectively to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. The program equips graduates to reflect critically on their work and contribute meaningfully to scholarship, while also providing a pathway to doctoral-level study.The course structure emphasizes rigorous research training and scholarly engagement. Candidates must satisfactorily complete confirmation of candidature, conduct research under supervision, and prepare a thesis or equivalent for examination. An oral examination is required, along with adherence to any Human Research Ethics Committee requirements. Students submit annual reports throughout their candidature, participate in a minimum of eight hours of research seminars and conferences per year, and present at least one seminar or conference paper of no less than 20 minutes after confirmation of candidature and prior to thesis submission. This structure ensures that graduates acquire the skills, experience, and academic rigor necessary for professional research, further study, or advanced roles in their discipline.
