COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Ministry is a comprehensive degree designed to equip students for effective and informed Christian ministry by integrating academic study, practical training and reflective formation. Graduates develop a broad, coherent and critical understanding of Christian theological traditions and methodologies, while also gaining focused knowledge in ministry studies that prepares them for real-world service. Throughout the program, students learn to articulate a well-formed, theologically grounded vision of ministry and communicate that vision through clear, reasoned argument and demonstrated practical ability. They are trained to engage both historical and contemporary theological perspectives, enabling them to understand and respond thoughtfully to the cultural contexts in which ministry takes place. The degree provides learners with a strong basis for meaningful engagement, leadership and service through the application of theological reflection, helping them shape their ministry practice with maturity and insight. The Bachelor of Ministry consists of 432 credit points, beginning with 72 points in Biblical Studies, ensuring students study both Old and New Testament texts. This is complemented by 36 points in Church History and 72 points in Systematic Theology, giving students a solid framework for understanding Christian belief and tradition. A further 36 points are completed in Theology: Mission and Ministry, and 72 points in Pastoral Theology and Ministry Studies, including at least 36 points of supervised field education or clinical pastoral education, which provides hands-on ministry experience. Students also complete an 18-point Capstone unit and 126 credit points of elective study from any discipline, offering flexibility to tailor the degree to individual interests. Additional rules ensure balanced progression through different study levels. For those pursuing the Social Work pathway into the Master of Social Work at Flinders University, specific units in sociology, community ministry, justice, psychology, diversity and ecotheology are required. Overall, the program forms a strong foundation for ministry leadership and further theological or professional study.
