COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Professional Engineering (Electrical and Electronic) program at the University of Newcastle requires students to complete 240 units over three years of full-time study. The program structure includes 140 units of core courses, 60 units of directed courses, and 40 units of electives that allow students to specialize according to their interests and career goals. The curriculum develops advanced knowledge and practical skills in electrical and electronic engineering through a combination of foundational, technical, project-based, and research-focused learning. Core courses cover essential areas such as electrical engineering fundamentals, digital and computer electronics, electric energy systems, electrical and electronic circuits, signals, embedded computing, engineering statistics, analog electronics, project management, machine learning, and engineering modelling and control. Students also complete a major final year project, providing opportunities to apply engineering knowledge to complex real-world challenges and develop innovative solutions. The directed course component allows students to deepen their expertise in specialized fields including power systems, renewable energy, communications, programmable logic design, power electronics, signal processing, control systems, telecommunication networks, and electronic product design. Through advanced technical training, practical projects, and research experiences, graduates develop the capabilities required for professional engineering practice and are prepared to contribute to emerging technologies in energy, automation, communications, electronics, and intelligent systems.
