COURSE CURRICULUM

Upon completion of the Master of Laboratory Medicine program, graduates will possess a comprehensive understanding of the core scientific principles that form the foundation of laboratory medicine, with an in-depth knowledge of the cellular and molecular processes underlying both health and disease. They will demonstrate a strong awareness of the ethical, legal, and regulatory frameworks governing the collection, storage, and use of medical data, ensuring sensitivity and inclusivity, particularly toward First Nations and under-represented populations.Graduates will be equipped with the ability to contribute to the accreditation and maintenance of laboratory medicine facilities and staff. This includes the capacity to design, conduct, and evaluate quality assurance and quality control procedures essential for maintaining laboratory standards. They will also have specialised knowledge across key medical laboratory disciplines, testing methodologies, and reporting requirements, enabling them to accurately perform diagnostic tests, assess results, and determine when additional testing is necessary.Practical and technical competence will be complemented by strong communication skills, allowing graduates to prepare and present laboratory reports, policies, and procedures clearly and effectively. They will also demonstrate the ability to collaborate efficiently within multidisciplinary teams and communicate scientific concepts to both professional and non-specialist audiences.The program also instils a strong commitment to continuous professional development, fostering lifelong learning and adaptability in response to evolving technologies and practices within modern medical laboratories. Graduates will possess advanced research capabilities, enabling them to critically evaluate scientific literature, apply appropriate research methodologies, and communicate findings to diverse audiences.Finally, they will demonstrate both independent and collaborative skills, applying research principles and analytical thinking to solve complex challenges in medical science environments.
