COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Visual Communication Design (VisComm) prepares students for a dynamic and ever-evolving media industry where imagination, creativity, and visual expertise are highly valued. The program equips students with specialised creative art and design skills applicable to careers such as graphic design, app design, illustration, concept art, games design, web design, typography, animation, advertising, UX design, service design, wayfinding, interaction design, and visual storytelling. Students gain a solid grounding in the fundamentals of visual communication design and creative arts while having the opportunity to focus on majors in Animation and Illustration or Graphic Design, allowing them to cultivate their individual creative passions and technical expertise.Students can complete a single major and choose from additional minors or electives to customise their learning pathway. This flexibility ensures students develop a versatile skill set while engaging with contemporary design practices and industry standards. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to engage critically with visual concepts, applying design theories and understanding their historical evolution in relation to broader cultural, social, economic, political, and legal contexts. They are guided to work iteratively, producing novel outcomes that meet professional briefs and respond effectively to industry challenges.Graduates will be able to create professional projects that draw upon technical skills, aesthetic knowledge, and an awareness of industry expectations. The program emphasises the integration of design practices, languages, forms, materials, technologies, and techniques to produce innovative works, demonstrating an appreciation for design as a global field of practice. Universal design principles are embedded throughout, enabling graduates to contribute meaningfully to diverse communities with respect and understanding. Leadership, teamwork, and professional communication skills are developed to ensure graduates can collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and stakeholders, while critical reflection strengthens their professional practice. Cognitive skills, critical thinking, and independent judgement are cultivated to solve problems across a wide range of design contexts.
