The Bachelor of Social Science at the University of Newcastle equips students with the skills, knowledge, and networks to address social, political, and ethical challenges, making a meaningful impact locally and globally. The program fosters practical and problem-based learning, developing critical thinking and experience essential for navigating the complex demands of the 21st-century labor market. Students can choose from a diverse range of majors, including Human Services, Psychology Studies, and Sociology and Anthropology, with all majors available at the Callaghan campus and select majors at the Ourimbah campus, though course availability may vary. A mandatory 12-week practical experience, such as internships or community projects, allows students to apply their learning in real-world contexts, building professional networks. Graduates demonstrate proficiency in social scientific research methods, including quantitative and qualitative research design, methodological expertise, and data analysis. They develop a broad and coherent understanding of social scientific concepts and their practical application in real-world settings. The program emphasizes critical awareness of social dynamics, patterns of inequality, and factors affecting vulnerable groups, enabling graduates to propose evidence-based solutions.
