COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology major within the Bachelor of Science (Advanced) at the University of Newcastle provides students with a comprehensive understanding of human behaviour, cognition, biological processes, and psychological research methods. The program begins with foundational courses such as Psychology Introduction 1 and Psychology Introduction 2, introducing students to key concepts, theories, and approaches within psychology. Students then develop deeper knowledge through courses including Cognitive Psychology and Biological Psychology, exploring mental processes, learning, memory, brain functions, and the relationship between biological systems and behaviour. Advanced study is supported by courses such as Advanced Research Methods and Statistics in Psychology, where students develop essential skills in research design, data analysis, statistical interpretation, and evidence-based investigation. The major also includes Advanced Special Topics in Psychology 2, allowing students to explore contemporary psychological issues and emerging areas of research. Elective options such as Animal Behaviour, Individual Differences and Assessment, and Advanced Perception and Learning in Psychology provide further opportunities to examine behaviour across species, psychological assessment techniques, perception, and learning processes.
