COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science with an Earth Science major is designed for students who are interested in understanding the processes that shape the Earth, including natural systems, environmental change, climate, resources, and geological phenomena. The program develops strong scientific foundations through core courses in programming, multidisciplinary laboratory practice, mathematics, statistics, and work-integrated learning. Students specialising in Earth Science explore the dynamic interactions between the Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, landscapes, water systems, and natural hazards through a combination of theoretical study, field-based learning, and scientific analysis. The major includes key courses such as Earth: Our Dynamic Planet, Earth: Natural Hazards, Earth’s Dynamic Surface, Spatial Science, and Water Resilience: From Climate to Groundwater. Students can further develop their knowledge through advanced topics including Catchments and Climate, Earth’s Critical Zone, Weather and Waves, Coastal Environments and Processes, Advanced Spatial Science, and Climate Change and Resource Management. Through these studies, students gain skills in environmental monitoring, spatial analysis, climate science, resource management, and sustainable practices. Graduates are prepared for careers in environmental consulting, climate research, natural resource management, government agencies, geoscience industries, and conservation.
