COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy requires students to complete a total of 240 units, comprising 230 units of core courses and 10 units of electives. The program provides comprehensive education in oral health sciences, clinical practice, health promotion, and patient care, preparing graduates for professional practice as oral health therapists with dual qualifications in dental hygiene and dental therapy. Core courses cover human bioscience, head and neck anatomy, oral health sciences, oral therapeutics, population health, psychology, sociology, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, ensuring students develop a strong scientific, cultural, and ethical foundation. A major focus of the curriculum is the progressive development of clinical skills through a series of supervised practical courses, where students gain experience in dental hygiene, dental therapy, preventive care, restorative procedures, and comprehensive patient management. The program also emphasizes oral health promotion and community engagement, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to educate individuals and communities on maintaining lifelong oral health and preventing disease. Students complete extensive clinical placements that provide valuable real-world experience in diverse healthcare settings. The 10 units of electives allow students to broaden their knowledge in areas of personal or professional interest. Upon graduation, students are well prepared for careers in public and private dental practices, community health services, hospitals, and educational settings, delivering evidence-based, patient-centered oral healthcare.
