COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Radiation Therapy) is a four-year AQF level 8 program designed to prepare graduates for a professional career in cancer treatment. Radiation therapists are healthcare professionals who use anatomical and functional imaging studies to design and implement precise treatment plans for patients with malignant disease. Using advanced medical technology, including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and linear accelerators, radiation therapists deliver daily treatments while monitoring patients’ health and well-being throughout the process. The program equips graduates with the technical expertise, clinical skills, and professional knowledge required to contribute to Australia’s high cancer cure rates.Throughout the degree, students gain advanced knowledge of radiation therapy principles, radiobiology, anatomy, physiology, and oncology, alongside practical experience in clinical settings. Graduates develop the ability to evaluate and implement modern and evolving imaging and treatment strategies as registered practitioners. The program emphasizes evidence-based practice, research skills, and critical thinking, preparing students to design and undertake scientific investigations and apply clinical reasoning to ensure safe and effective patient care.Graduates are trained to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams, demonstrating professional communication skills to convey complex information clearly to patients, colleagues, and healthcare professionals. Ethical practice, accountability, and professional integrity are central to the program, with graduates demonstrating adherence to legal and professional standards, reflective practice, and ongoing professional development. Students also gain proficiency in using advanced imaging technologies and integrating them into clinical practice effectively.By completing this program, graduates are equipped to make a meaningful impact on patient care, improving outcomes for individuals undergoing cancer treatment. They leave with the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required to advance the field of radiation therapy, contribute to multidisciplinary healthcare teams, and support patients and families throughout their treatment journey.
