COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Nuclear Medicine) is an AQF level 8 program designed to prepare graduates for a professional career in nuclear medicine, combining advanced imaging technology, clinical expertise, and patient care skills. Nuclear medicine practitioners use sophisticated technologies such as scintigraphy, single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), and hybrid PET/CT, along with radiopharmaceuticals, to image and treat a wide range of conditions. These include injuries in elite athletes, cardiac and brain disorders, and various cancers, enabling accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and improved patient outcomes.Throughout the program, students develop advanced clinical knowledge and practical skills, learning to evaluate and implement modern diagnostic and treatment strategies. Graduates are trained to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams, demonstrating effective communication with patients, colleagues, and other health professionals. The curriculum emphasizes evidence-based practice and research skills, allowing students to design and undertake scientific investigations, apply clinical reasoning, and integrate emerging technologies into professional practice.Professionalism, ethical practice, and accountability are central to the program. Graduates demonstrate a commitment to legal and ethical standards, reflective practice, and ongoing professional development. They gain proficiency in using advanced medical imaging technologies and understanding their clinical applications, including computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).By the end of the program, graduates are equipped to contribute meaningfully to patient care, medical research, and the development of the nuclear medicine profession. They leave with the technical competence, clinical reasoning, and professional integrity required to deliver safe and effective imaging and treatment services, improve health outcomes, and advance the field of nuclear medicine through innovation, research, and lifelong learning.
