COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) (Honours) requires students to complete 330 units through a combination of professional education studies, teaching specialization, internship experience, and additional teaching options. The program includes 190 units of core courses that develop essential knowledge and skills in secondary education, curriculum design, assessment, pedagogy, educational psychology, classroom management, inclusive education, equity and diversity, Aboriginal education, ethical teaching, and educational research. Students complete Honours research components that introduce research methods, project design, and independent thesis development, preparing graduates for further academic study and contributions to educational research. A 30-unit internship course provides valuable professional experience through Quality Teaching and Professional Practice in Years 7–12 settings or a specialized Special Education internship, allowing students to apply theory in authentic classroom environments. Students also complete one 80-unit First Teaching Area, selecting from disciplines such as Aboriginal Studies, Business Studies, English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Languages, Technology, Drama, Health and Physical Education, and other specialist fields. Additional teaching areas or electives provide flexibility to broaden expertise and improve employment opportunities. The program ensures students develop strong subject knowledge, teaching capability, research skills, and professional competence required for successful careers as secondary teachers, curriculum leaders, education consultants, researchers, and education professionals across diverse learning environments.
