COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours) requires students to complete 330 units through a combination of core education studies and elective learning. The program includes 320 units of core courses that develop the professional knowledge, practical skills, and research capabilities required for a successful career as a primary school teacher. Students study key areas including teaching practices, K–6 pedagogies, creative arts, language development, mathematics, science and technology, health and physical education, educational psychology, literacy and numeracy education, curriculum design, inclusive education, Aboriginal education, equity and diversity, and professional teaching practice. The program progressively builds students’ understanding of effective teaching strategies, student learning processes, classroom management, curriculum integration, and approaches to supporting diverse learners. A significant component of the degree is the 30-unit Quality Teaching and Professional Practice K–6 course, which provides valuable opportunities to apply educational theory in authentic classroom settings. The Honours component introduces students to education research, research methods, and independent thesis development, preparing graduates for further academic study and research careers. Students also complete 10 units of electives, allowing them to explore additional areas of interest and complement their teaching studies. Graduates develop the skills and knowledge required for careers as K–6 teachers, education consultants, curriculum developers, researchers, policy professionals, and educational leaders.
