COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) (Honours) requires students to successfully complete 330 units of core courses designed to develop comprehensive knowledge, practical teaching skills, and research capabilities for a career in education. The program combines studies in child development, teaching practice, curriculum design, educational psychology, inclusive education, literacy, numeracy, science, technology, creative arts, health, and social development. Early courses establish foundational understanding of becoming a teacher, childhood learning, language development, mathematics, science, Australian society, and the relationship between education and inequality. As students progress, they explore advanced approaches to teaching and learning, including play-based learning, quality teaching practices, primary curriculum areas, Aboriginal education, inclusive education, communication, multiliteracies, and pedagogies from birth to twelve years. The program includes a 30-unit Early Childhood/Primary Professional Experience, providing valuable opportunities for students to apply their knowledge in authentic educational settings and develop professional teaching skills. Honours components introduce students to education research, research design, methodology, and independent thesis development, preparing graduates for further research opportunities. Graduates develop the professional knowledge, leadership skills, and reflective capabilities required for roles as Early Childhood Teachers, Primary Teachers, education administrators, curriculum developers, consultants, researchers, and advocates who contribute to improving educational outcomes for children and communities.
