COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) (Honours) requires students to successfully complete 320 units through a structured combination of core education studies, teaching areas, and additional study options. Students complete 150 units of core courses that develop essential knowledge and professional skills required for effective secondary teaching, including educational theory, curriculum development, teaching practices, research, assessment, inclusion, and professional experience. Alongside the core component, students select one First Teaching Area that provides specialized disciplinary knowledge and prepares them to teach a specific subject area in Years 7–12 settings. Students then complete an additional teaching area, electives, or extended studies, allowing flexibility to broaden their expertise, enhance employment opportunities, and tailor their degree according to personal interests and career goals. The program requires students to complete courses only from approved program options and maintain balanced progression across academic levels, with a minimum of 40 units completed at each level from 1000 through 4000. Students cannot exceed 120 units at the 1000 level, ensuring appropriate advancement into higher-level study. Through this combination of professional education, subject specialization, and flexible learning pathways, graduates develop the knowledge, practical abilities, and reflective skills needed to become effective secondary teachers, curriculum leaders, education professionals, and contributors to future educational practice.
