COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Health Data Science (Extension) requires students to complete a total of 96 Units of Credit (UOC) as a standalone program, combining core technical training, research experience, and elective study to develop advanced expertise in health-focused data science. The program includes 72 UOC of compulsory core courses, which provide a strong foundation in key areas such as statistics, programming, data management, machine learning, and health data analytics. These core courses are designed to equip students with the technical and analytical skills needed to work with complex health datasets and generate meaningful insights for clinical, policy, and population health applications. Within the core structure, students also complete a 24 UOC research course, which allows them to apply their knowledge to real-world health problems through an in-depth research project or data-driven investigation. This component strengthens critical thinking, problem-solving, and applied research skills, and may also support pathways to further academic study such as a PhD. In addition, students undertake 24 UOC of prescribed elective courses, providing flexibility to specialise or broaden their expertise in areas related to health, data science, or advanced analytics. Overall, the program structure is designed to produce highly skilled graduates capable of working at the intersection of health and data science, with the ability to analyse complex information, support evidence-based decision-making, and contribute to improvements in healthcare systems and population health outcomes.
