COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Global Health (Extension)/Master of Public Health requires students to complete a total of 96 Units of Credit (UOC), providing a flexible and comprehensive structure that integrates core public health training, global health specialisation, research development, and elective study. The program includes 30 UOC of core courses, which establish a strong foundation in public health principles, epidemiology, health systems, health policy, and population health approaches across both Australian and international contexts. Students are also required to complete between 12 and 42 UOC of Global Health prescribed electives, allowing them to deepen their understanding of global health challenges such as health equity, infectious diseases, health systems strengthening, and international development. A key component of the degree is the 24 UOC research methodology or extension project and coursework requirement, which builds advanced research, analytical, and critical thinking skills through independent investigation of contemporary public and global health issues. In addition, students may undertake up to 24 UOC of an optional specialisation, enabling further focus in a chosen area of interest, and up to 30 UOC of prescribed electives to broaden or tailor their learning experience. International students who completed prior studies in a non-English-speaking country must enrol in PHCM9100 Academic Practice, a 0 UOC course designed to support academic communication skills. The program may also include opportunities for independent study or internships, providing practical exposure and professional experience in real-world health settings locally and globally.
