COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Health (Extension)/Master of Infectious Diseases Intelligence requires students to complete a total of 96 Units of Credit (UOC), offering an integrated curriculum that combines foundational public health training with specialised infectious diseases expertise and advanced research development. The program includes 42 UOC of core courses, which provide essential knowledge in public health principles, epidemiology, health systems, disease prevention, and policy development. These core studies establish a strong base for understanding population health and infectious disease challenges in both national and global contexts. Students are also required to complete a 24 UOC research methodology or extension project and coursework component, which develops advanced analytical, critical thinking, and research skills through independent investigation of contemporary public health and infectious disease issues. In addition, the program includes 6 UOC of Infectious Diseases prescribed electives, allowing students to deepen their expertise in areas such as disease surveillance, outbreak response, and epidemiological intelligence. A further 24 UOC of other prescribed electives enables students to broaden their learning across related public health disciplines and tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. International students who completed prior studies in a non-English-speaking country must enrol in PHCM9100 Academic Practice, a 0 UOC course designed to support academic communication and success. Opportunities for independent study or internships may also be available, providing practical experience and professional engagement in real-world health settings.
