COURSE CURRICULUM

The UNSW Master of Landscape Architecture requires students to complete a total of 144 Units of Credit (UOC) when undertaken as a standalone program, with a structured pathway that allows for progression through different levels of specialisation in landscape architecture. The program is organised into three possible streams: Landscape Architecture Stream A (144 UOC), Stream B (96 UOC), and Stream C (48 UOC), enabling students to enter at different stages depending on their prior academic background and experience. Each stream provides a tailored combination of design studio work, theoretical study, and technical training, ensuring students develop strong capabilities in ecological design, spatial planning, and landscape systems thinking. Students in Stream A or Stream B also have the option to undertake an additional 24 UOC Optional Specialisation, replacing equivalent elective study. These optional specialisations include City Analytics and Urban Design, which allow students to broaden their expertise in related fields and strengthen their ability to work across urban and environmental contexts. The program structure is designed to build both creative and analytical skills, integrating design thinking with scientific and cultural understanding of landscapes. Through this flexible yet rigorous framework, students progressively develop the competencies required for professional practice. Graduates are equipped to address complex environmental and urban challenges and to contribute to sustainable landscape planning and design in local, regional, and global settings, preparing them for careers as registered landscape architects.
