COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Health (Extension)/Master of Health Leadership and Management requires students to complete a total of 96 Units of Credit (UOC), providing a balanced combination of advanced public health education, leadership training, and research experience. The program includes 48 UOC of core courses that establish a strong foundation in public health and health management, covering key areas such as epidemiology, biostatistics, health promotion, social determinants of health, health policy, leadership, workforce management, and healthcare service improvement. A major component of the degree is the 24 UOC research methodology or extension project and coursework requirement, which enables students to develop advanced research, analytical, and critical thinking skills through independent investigation of contemporary public health and health management issues. The degree also offers flexibility through an optional specialisation worth up to 24 UOC, allowing students to focus on a particular area of interest and develop expertise aligned with their career goals. In addition, students may complete up to 24 UOC of prescribed electives, broadening their knowledge across diverse health disciplines and enhancing their professional competencies. International students who completed previous studies in a non-English-speaking country are required to enrol in PHCM9100 Academic Practice, a 0 UOC course that supports academic communication and learning success. Opportunities for independent study or internships may also be available, providing practical experience, professional exposure, and valuable industry engagement in real-world public health and healthcare management settings.
