COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Global Health (Extension)/Master of Infectious Diseases Intelligence at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program designed to build advanced expertise in infectious disease control, global health systems, and public health intelligence. The program is structured to combine core disciplinary knowledge, research training, and specialised electives, preparing students for professional roles in health services, government agencies, and international organisations. It includes 42 UOC of core courses that establish a strong foundation in global health, epidemiology, infectious diseases, and health systems. Students then complete 24 UOC in research methodology or an extension project and coursework, which develops critical research skills, data analysis capabilities, and the ability to apply evidence-based approaches to global health challenges. The program also includes 6–12 UOC of infectious diseases prescribed electives and 12–18 UOC of global health prescribed electives, allowing students to specialise in areas such as disease surveillance, outbreak response, health policy, and international health systems. In addition, students may complete 0–12 UOC of further prescribed electives to broaden their expertise. International students from non-English speaking backgrounds are required to enrol in PHCM9100 Academic Practice (0 UOC) to support academic communication skills. Overall, the program equips graduates with the analytical, research, and practical skills needed for careers in infectious disease prevention, health intelligence, policy development, and global health practice across government, non-government, and international health organisations.
