COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Finance at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program structured into two main stages to accommodate students with different academic backgrounds. The program is designed as a standalone qualification and can typically be completed over one to two years depending on entry pathway and prior study. It consists of Stage 1 and Stage 2, each worth 48 UOC. Stage 1 focuses on foundational finance knowledge, including core financial principles, quantitative methods, and essential analytical skills required for advanced study in finance. Stage 2 builds on this foundation and covers more specialised and advanced topics such as investments, corporate finance, financial markets, and financial technologies, allowing students to tailor their learning to their career interests. The program offers two entry pathways: Pathway 1 requires students to complete both Stage 1 and Stage 2, totaling the full 96 UOC, and is typically intended for students without a prior background in finance. Pathway 2 is designed for students who already have relevant finance or related undergraduate study and provides 48 UOC of advanced standing (MFIN0001 block credit), allowing them to skip Stage 1 and proceed directly to Stage 2, completing only 48 UOC. This flexible structure ensures the program is accessible to both newcomers and experienced students while maintaining a strong balance between foundational learning and advanced professional finance training.
