COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering Science (Transport Engineering) at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program designed to develop advanced knowledge and professional skills in transport systems, infrastructure planning, and mobility engineering. The program is intended for students with an existing four-year engineering qualification who wish to specialise in transport engineering or broaden their expertise in civil and infrastructure systems. It provides a strong foundation in analysing and modelling transport networks for both passenger and freight movement, with an emphasis on efficiency, safety, sustainability, and economic performance. The program begins with 6 UOC of foundational core courses that introduce essential principles of transport systems and engineering analysis. Students then complete 30 UOC of disciplinary knowledge electives, covering areas such as transport planning, traffic engineering, demand modelling, logistics, and intelligent transport systems. This is followed by 12 UOC of advanced disciplinary knowledge electives, allowing deeper exploration of specialised topics such as sustainability, emissions, land-use integration, and transport safety. The program also includes 24 UOC of advanced disciplinary core courses that focus on complex transport system design, network optimisation, and infrastructure decision-making. In addition, 6 UOC of engineering technical management courses develop leadership, communication, ethics, and project management skills. The final 18 UOC is dedicated to a research, capstone, or project component, where students apply advanced concepts to real-world transport challenges. Overall, the program prepares graduates for advanced careers in transport engineering, infrastructure planning, logistics, and urban mobility systems.
