The Master of Engineering Science (Telecommunications) at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program designed to develop advanced expertise in modern telecommunications systems, network engineering, and wireless communication technologies. The program is aimed at students who already hold a four-year engineering qualification and wish to specialise, retrain, or expand their career opportunities in the fast-growing communications and networking industry. It provides a strong blend of theoretical foundations, practical engineering applications, and research-focused learning. Students begin with 12 UOC of foundational core courses that introduce essential principles of telecommunications systems, network theory, and engineering analysis. They then complete 36 UOC of disciplinary knowledge electives, which allow them to study key areas such as internet protocols, network architecture, switching systems, routing, and advanced communication technologies. The program also includes 6 UOC of engineering and technical management courses, which develop professional skills in leadership, ethics, communication, and project management. A further 24 UOC of advanced disciplinary knowledge electives provides deeper study in specialised topics such as wireless communications, modulation techniques, coding theory, and information systems. The final 18 UOC is dedicated to research, capstone, or project work, where students apply advanced knowledge to real-world telecommunications challenges.
