The Master of Engineering Science (Systems and Control) at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program designed to provide advanced technical expertise in automation, control systems, and dynamic system engineering. The program is intended for students with an existing four-year engineering qualification who wish to specialise in systems and control or broaden their knowledge across related engineering disciplines. It develops strong capabilities in modelling, analysing, and controlling complex systems that are found in industries such as automotive, aerospace, robotics, manufacturing, and industrial automation. The program begins with 12 UOC of foundational core courses that introduce essential principles in engineering systems and analytical methods. Students then complete 18 UOC of disciplinary knowledge core courses, which provide a strong technical foundation in systems theory, feedback control, and dynamic systems analysis. A further 18 UOC of disciplinary knowledge electives allows students to tailor their studies to specific interests such as robotics, mechatronics, or industrial automation. The program also includes 6 UOC of engineering and technical management courses, focusing on leadership, communication, ethics, and project management in engineering contexts. Advanced learning is reinforced through 12 UOC of advanced disciplinary core courses and 12 UOC of advanced disciplinary electives, which explore complex control strategies, optimisation, and real-world system applications. The final 18 UOC is dedicated to a research, capstone, or project component where students apply theoretical knowledge to practical engineering challenges. Overall, the program prepares graduates for advanced careers in automation, control engineering, robotics, aerospace, and high-technology industries.
