The Master of Engineering Science (Space Systems Engineering) at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program designed to develop advanced expertise in space systems, satellite technologies, and aerospace engineering. The program is tailored for students who already hold an accredited engineering degree and wish to transition into the space industry or pursue specialised research in space technologies. It provides a strong multidisciplinary foundation, combining engineering principles from mechanical, electrical, aerospace, and systems engineering to understand the complexity of spacecraft and mission design. Students begin with 24 UOC of foundational core courses that establish essential knowledge in engineering systems and space-related principles. They then complete 36 UOC of advanced disciplinary knowledge core courses, which form the main technical backbone of the program and cover areas such as systems engineering, satellite systems, spacecraft design, space mission development, and space systems integration. The program also includes 12 UOC of advanced disciplinary knowledge electives, allowing students to specialise further in areas aligned with their interests and career goals. In addition, 6 UOC of engineering and technical management courses develop leadership, communication, project management, and professional decision-making skills essential for complex engineering environments. The final 18 UOC is dedicated to a research, capstone, or project component, where students apply advanced knowledge to real-world space engineering challenges.
