COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering Science (Project Management) at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program designed to develop advanced project management expertise alongside strong analytical, technical, and leadership capabilities. The program provides a comprehensive understanding of project planning, risk management, contracts, finance, economics, resource allocation, and organisational leadership, preparing graduates to manage complex projects across a wide range of industries. Students complete 30 UOC of disciplinary knowledge electives, which build foundational and applied expertise in project management principles, project delivery methods, stakeholder management, procurement, and operational decision-making. This is complemented by 18 UOC of advanced disciplinary knowledge electives, allowing students to explore specialised project management topics and develop deeper expertise in areas aligned with their career interests. The program also includes 24 UOC of advanced disciplinary core courses that focus on strategic project leadership, advanced planning techniques, risk assessment, and solving complex real-world project challenges. In addition, students undertake 6 UOC of engineering technical management studies, developing professional skills in communication, ethics, leadership, and management. A significant component of the degree is the 18 UOC research or professional core requirement, where students engage in enquiry-based projects that strengthen their ability to analyse, interpret, and communicate project outcomes effectively. Overall, the program prepares graduates for leadership roles in project management, engineering, construction, infrastructure, consulting, and both public and private sector organisations.
