COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering Science (Photovoltaics and Solar Energy) at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program designed to provide advanced knowledge and specialist skills in solar energy technologies, photovoltaics, and renewable energy systems. The program combines foundational engineering principles, specialised technical study, research experience, and professional development to prepare graduates for leadership roles in the sustainable energy sector. Students begin with 12 UOC of foundational core courses that establish key concepts in energy systems and photovoltaic technologies, followed by 12 UOC of foundational electives that allow further exploration of related engineering areas. The program includes 6 UOC of disciplinary knowledge core courses and 18 UOC of disciplinary knowledge electives, covering topics such as solar energy applications, photovoltaic devices, system design, renewable energy integration, and energy efficiency. Students then undertake 24 UOC of advanced disciplinary knowledge electives, enabling them to deepen their expertise in specialised areas of photovoltaics, renewable energy modelling, and advanced energy technologies. In addition, the degree incorporates 6 UOC of engineering technical management courses that develop leadership, communication, project management, and professional decision-making skills. A significant component of the program is the 18 UOC research, capstone, or project work, where students apply their learning to real-world renewable energy challenges. Overall, the program prepares graduates for advanced careers in solar energy, renewable energy engineering, energy consulting, research and development, and sustainable technology industries.
