COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering Science (Nuclear Engineering) at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program designed to provide advanced knowledge and professional skills in nuclear engineering and related high-technology industries. The program combines technical expertise, management capability, and research experience to prepare graduates for careers in nuclear science, energy systems, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defence, and emerging technologies. Students begin with 24 UOC of foundational core courses that establish a strong understanding of nuclear science, reactor fundamentals, engineering principles, and the scientific concepts underpinning nuclear technologies. The program also includes 24 UOC of engineering technical management courses, which develop essential professional skills in leadership, project management, communication, ethical decision-making, systems thinking, and strategic planning. Students then complete 18 UOC of advanced disciplinary knowledge core courses that provide in-depth study of nuclear engineering topics such as reactor systems, nuclear materials, fuel cycles, safety, security, and regulatory frameworks. An additional 12 UOC of advanced disciplinary knowledge electives allows students to tailor their studies to specific interests and career goals within the nuclear sector. The degree also incorporates 18 UOC of research, capstone, or project work, enabling students to apply advanced engineering concepts to real-world challenges while developing analytical and research skills. Overall, the program prepares graduates for specialist and leadership roles in nuclear engineering, energy innovation, and technology-driven industries worldwide.
