COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering Science (Mechanical and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering) at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program designed to provide advanced knowledge and practical skills in mechanical engineering and modern manufacturing systems. The program is structured to develop strong technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and professional capability for graduates aiming to progress into senior engineering roles. It begins with 24 UOC of foundational core courses that establish essential mechanical engineering principles and provide a strong academic base. Students then complete 24 UOC of disciplinary knowledge electives, allowing them to build expertise in key areas such as design, manufacturing processes, materials engineering, thermofluids, and mechanical systems. This is followed by 24 UOC of advanced disciplinary knowledge electives, which focus on complex and emerging topics such as advanced manufacturing technologies, composite materials, computational design, and system optimisation. The program also includes 6 UOC of engineering technical management courses that develop leadership, communication, ethical decision-making, and project management skills relevant to professional engineering practice. In addition, students complete 18 UOC of research, capstone, or project work, where they apply theoretical and technical knowledge to real-world engineering challenges and develop strong analytical and research capabilities. Overall, the program prepares graduates for advanced careers in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, automotive industries, product development, and industrial innovation, equipping them with both technical depth and leadership skills.
