COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering Science (Environmental Engineering) at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program designed to develop advanced knowledge and specialist skills in environmental engineering, with a strong focus on sustainability and urban infrastructure development. The program structure is flexible and allows students to tailor their studies based on prior engineering background and career goals. It begins with 6 UOC of foundational core courses that provide essential grounding in environmental engineering principles and systems thinking. Students then complete 30 UOC of disciplinary knowledge electives, which build strong expertise in key areas such as water engineering, waste management, transport systems, civil infrastructure, renewable energy, and project management. This is followed by 12 UOC of advanced disciplinary knowledge electives, allowing deeper exploration of specialized environmental engineering topics. The program also includes 24 UOC of advanced disciplinary core courses that focus on complex engineering challenges, integrating technical depth with practical application. In addition, students undertake 6 UOC of engineering and technical management courses to develop leadership, communication, ethical decision-making, and project management skills. Finally, 18 UOC is dedicated to research, project, or capstone work, enabling students to apply their knowledge to real-world environmental problems. Overall, the program prepares graduates for advanced careers in environmental engineering, infrastructure planning, sustainability consulting, and urban development, equipping them with both technical expertise and professional capability.
