COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering Science (Civil Engineering) at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program designed to provide advanced technical knowledge and professional capability in civil engineering. The program is structured to support both specialization and flexibility, allowing students to tailor their studies based on career goals and prior engineering background. The degree begins with 24 UOC of foundational core courses that strengthen essential civil engineering principles and analytical skills. Students then complete 24 UOC of disciplinary knowledge electives, which allow them to build expertise in key civil engineering areas such as structural systems, transport engineering, water resources, construction, and environmental engineering. This is followed by 24 UOC of advanced disciplinary courses that deepen technical understanding and focus on modern engineering challenges and advanced applications. In addition, students complete a 6 UOC engineering and technical management course that develops leadership, communication, ethical decision-making, and project management skills required in professional engineering practice. The program also includes 18 UOC of research, project, or capstone courses, enabling students to apply their knowledge to real-world engineering problems and develop strong research and problem-solving abilities. Overall, the program prepares graduates for advanced roles in civil engineering, infrastructure development, construction management, environmental systems, and engineering consultancy, equipping them with both technical depth and professional skills.
