COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering Science (Chemical Engineering) at UNSW Sydney is a flexible two-year full-time postgraduate program designed to develop advanced technical, analytical, and leadership skills in chemical engineering. The program structure is designed to ensure students gain both strong disciplinary foundations and the ability to specialise in areas aligned with modern industry needs. Students complete at least four disciplinary courses that build core chemical engineering knowledge, along with four advanced disciplinary courses that deepen expertise in cutting-edge topics and emerging technologies. In addition, the program includes one engineering and technical management course that develops professional skills such as communication, ethical decision-making, leadership, and project or organisational management. A key feature of the degree is the inclusion of three enquiry-based courses, which incorporate a research project allowing students to investigate real-world engineering problems, apply critical thinking, and develop independent research capability. Students also complete four elective courses chosen from disciplinary, advanced disciplinary, or engineering management areas, enabling further customisation of their studies based on interests and career goals. Overall, the program ensures graduates are equipped with strong technical knowledge, problem-solving ability, and leadership skills.
