COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering (Mining Engineering) at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program designed to provide advanced technical knowledge and professional skills in mining engineering. The program consists of a 96 UOC specialisation, which allows students to build in-depth expertise across core mining engineering areas such as mine design, mineral processing, geotechnical engineering, mine geomechanics, project management, environmental management, mine ventilation and water systems, hazard identification, risk and safety management, and waste management. This structured specialisation ensures students gain both broad disciplinary understanding and advanced technical capability aligned with industry requirements. A compulsory component of the degree is ENGG4999 – 60 Days of Industrial Training, which provides structured, pre-approved professional experience in real mining and engineering environments. This industrial training allows students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical industry challenges, develop workplace competencies, and gain exposure to operational standards, safety practices, and engineering workflows used in the mining sector. It also significantly enhances employability by building hands-on experience and professional readiness. The combination of academic specialisation and industrial training ensures graduates are well prepared for real-world engineering demands.
