COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Educational Leadership at UNSW Sydney is a 96 Units of Credit (UOC) postgraduate program designed for students who have not been granted block credit on entry, typically completed over two years of full-time study. The program is structured to build both foundational knowledge and advanced leadership capabilities in education. It begins with 24 UOC of foundation courses that establish core understanding of educational contexts, theories, and professional practice. Students then complete 12 UOC of Educational Leadership core courses, which focus on developing leadership skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage complex educational environments. In addition, students undertake 12 UOC of Educational Leadership electives, allowing them to explore specialized topics within leadership and education. A further 6 UOC research methodology course equips students with essential skills in research design, data analysis, and evidence-based decision-making. The final component of the program includes either a 6 UOC project combined with 36 UOC of education electives, or a more extensive 12 UOC project combined with 30 UOC of electives, enabling students to apply their learning to practical or research-based educational problems. Overall, this flexible yet structured program prepares graduates for leadership roles in schools, universities, and education systems by combining theory, research, and applied professional practice.
