COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Architecture program at UNSW requires students to complete a total of 96 units of credit (UOC). This program can be completed in two years of full-time study or between 2.7 to 4 years if studied part-time, providing flexibility to suit different lifestyles and commitments. The program is structured into two main components: eight core courses worth 48 UOC, and a specialisation component also totaling 48 UOC.The core courses cover essential architectural skills and knowledge that build a strong foundation for professional practice. These include Architectural Design Studio 1, Integrated Design Studio 1 and 2, Advanced Construction and Structures, The Profession of Architecture, Professional Practice 2: Projects and Practice, Elements of Architectural Design, and Architectural Environment & Building Services. These courses focus on developing design skills, technical expertise, professional understanding, and environmental awareness, preparing students for diverse roles in architecture.For the specialisation component, students can choose one of four distinct streams, each worth 48 UOC, to deepen their expertise in a specific area. The High Performance Technology stream emphasizes sustainable building design and environmental performance. The Housing stream focuses on designing housing and hybrid building types. Urban Conditions explores designing buildings and precincts within contemporary cities and their interaction with public spaces. The Social Agency stream concentrates on humanitarian design issues, including social displacement and alienation.Alternatively, students may choose not to specialise and instead follow the general Architecture stream. This option allows them to select studios and electives from across the various specialisations, offering a broader architectural education. This structure gives students the opportunity to customise their studies based on their interests and career goals while gaining a comprehensive education that prepares them for a future in architectural practice or related fields.
