COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) / Bachelor of Arts at UNSW is a five-year double degree requiring students to complete a total of 264 Units of Credit (UOC), combining professional social work training with a broad arts education. The Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) component accounts for 168 UOC and forms the core of the program. It provides comprehensive training in social work theory, practice, ethics, and professional skills, preparing students to work with individuals, families, and communities in diverse settings. The program emphasises practical learning and includes supervised field education placements, enabling students to gain real-world experience in community services, mental health, child protection, and other social support areas. Through this component, students develop strong communication, counselling, advocacy, and problem-solving skills grounded in social justice principles. The Bachelor of Arts component contributes 96 UOC and allows students to study a major and either a minor or a second major across humanities, social sciences, languages, and related disciplines. This component helps students build critical thinking, research, and analytical skills while broadening their understanding of social, cultural, and global issues. By combining Social Work and Arts, the degree produces well-rounded graduates who are equipped with both professional practice skills and a strong academic foundation, enabling them to pursue impactful careers in social services, community development, policy, and related human services fields.
