COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Social Sciences / Bachelor of Laws at UNSW requires students to complete a total of 240 Units of Credit (UOC), integrating a comprehensive legal education with in-depth study of social sciences. The Law component accounts for 144 UOC and is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in legal knowledge, reasoning, and professional practice. It includes core law subjects that cover essential areas of the legal system, along with prescribed and elective law courses that allow students to explore specialised fields of legal study. This component develops critical thinking, legal analysis, research skills, and effective written and oral communication, preparing students for professional legal careers and related fields. The Social Sciences component contributes 96 UOC and focuses on understanding social, political, economic, and cultural systems that shape society. Through this component, students develop analytical and research skills while gaining insight into contemporary social issues and global challenges. They may study areas such as politics, sociology, economics, and international relations, depending on their chosen specialisation. By combining Law and Social Sciences, the degree provides a strong interdisciplinary foundation that enables students to understand both legal frameworks and societal structures. Graduates are well prepared for diverse career paths in law, public policy, government, international organisations, advocacy, and community services, where both legal expertise and social awareness are highly valued.
