COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Advanced Mathematics (Honours) / Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at UNSW has a total program structure of 288 Units of Credit (UOC), reflecting the integrated nature of studying two degrees simultaneously, with a reduced workload of 24 UOC compared to completing them separately. The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) component accounts for 168 UOC and is designed to build strong technical and professional engineering capabilities. This includes 48 UOC of disciplinary knowledge and enquiry-based courses, 30–42 UOC of introductory knowledge courses that establish foundational engineering principles, and 12 UOC of engineering electives that allow students to tailor their learning. In addition, students must complete 60 days of Engineering Professional Practice, providing essential industry experience and exposure to real-world engineering environments. The Bachelor of Advanced Mathematics (Honours) component contributes 144 UOC and focuses on developing advanced mathematical expertise. Within this, students complete 84–90 UOC in their chosen major, allowing specialisation in areas aligned with their interests and career goals. A further 48 UOC is dedicated to the honours requirement, which includes advanced coursework and a significant research project, while 6–12 UOC of science electives provide additional breadth and interdisciplinary learning opportunities. Overall, this dual-degree structure balances rigorous academic training in both mathematics and engineering with practical experience, preparing graduates for complex, high-demand roles across industry and research sectors.
